Embark Studios Adjusts ARC Raiders Event Schedule After Player Backlash – Is It Enough?

Embark Studios recently pushed an update to its popular extraction shooter, ARC Raiders, directly addressing fervent player feedback regarding event frequency. The update, which first rolled out on February 3, 2026, aimed to make map events, particularly the coveted "Bird City," more accessible across diverse time zones. Community Manager Ossen confirmed on the official Discord that the change was implemented to establish a more consistent weekly schedule and significantly boost the Bird City event's appearance. While no client download was required for this particular adjustment, players did need to restart their game to implement the new schedule.

We've seen developers respond to player frustrations before, but Embark's quick action on event timing highlights a critical aspect of live-service game management. The question remains, however: are these adjustments truly enough to placate a player base that has repeatedly expressed concerns about accessibility and communication?

Bird City Takes Flight: Enhanced Accessibility and Loot Potential

The "Bird City" map event, initially introduced on January 27, 2026, with Update 1.13.0 (the "Headwinds" update), has now increased its occurrence from three to five times per day. This crucial change transforms the Buried City map by:

  • Significantly boosting bird populations.
  • Adding lootable chimneys and nests.
  • Increasing trinket drop rates.
  • Introducing additional ziplines and rooftop loot spots.

In our view, this event shines in promoting vertical combat and player-versus-player (PvP) engagements, offering a dynamic change of pace from standard raids. The allure of unique collectibles, such as seven distinct rubber duck trinkets, including the highly sought-after Familiar Duck (valued at 7,000 coins), Flashy and Doodly ducks (3,000 coins each), and standard and Alien Duck variants (1,000 coins each), provides clear incentives for participation. As of February 3rd, the "Hidden Bunker" event also rejoined the rotating map events.

Addressing Player Outcry and Communication Gaps

This adjustment to the event schedule was a direct consequence of significant player criticism. Many players, particularly those in European time zones, found the previous timings inconvenient, with events often scheduled during typical 9-5 workday hours or late after midnight GMT. This led to vocal complaints, with some players describing the schedule as catering to "unemployed players". The game's reliance on static 24-hour schedules tied to UTC has historically caused players to miss out on content if their playtimes were consistent, also making "Trials" requiring specific map conditions and offering 2x points exceptionally difficult.

Players have largely commended the increased event schedule, noting that it now makes farming rare trinkets, rubber ducks, and blueprints more feasible, alongside an increase in ARC spawns. Embark Studios has stated its commitment to continuing to revise and refine a suitable schedule for all map conditions to ensure players in all time zones get a fair chance to participate. We remain cautiously optimistic about this promise, given the studio's history with fixed schedules that have alienated a significant portion of its global audience. The studio also acknowledged that achieving "Cantina Legend" status previously required an "ungodly amount of grind," a difficulty potentially mitigated by increased event access.

It's also worth noting the volatility surrounding ARC Raiders' event stability. Prior to the February 3rd fix, all map conditions temporarily disappeared from the game on February 2nd due to an issue. Furthermore, the removal of the "Cold Snap" event in late January 2026 had already made the remaining event rotation feel more repetitive. While Cold Snap did return with the major 1.15.0 update on February 10th, the intermittent nature of event availability adds another layer of frustration for dedicated players.

On The Horizon: Shrouded Sky and Lingering Exploits

Looking ahead, the 2026 roadmap for ARC Raiders confirms a new "Shrouded Sky" update slated for March. This update is expected to introduce a new map condition, a new ARC threat, a new player project, a raider deck, a map update, and the game's second Expedition window. The Headwinds update, which first introduced Bird City, also added new quests like "On The Map" and the "Trophy Display" project. However, some players are currently reporting issues with the Trophy Display project not correctly awarding a trophy, leading to disappointment over its misleading name.

Despite Embark Studios having previously stated that a duplication exploit had been addressed last month, there are ongoing player concerns about the issue. In fact, following the February 10th update (1.15.0), new duplication glitches emerged, including infinite ammo and infinite health exploits, creating chaos and impacting fair play. Unconfirmed reports describe instances of dead raiders found next to "mountains of rubber ducks," suggesting the exploit may still be active and heavily abused. Embark has acknowledged these new issues and warned of "possible penalties" for abusers, including item loss.

Embark Studios indicated no store rotation or patch for the week of February 3rd, but a patch was anticipated for Tuesday, February 10th. This indeed arrived as Update 1.15.0, bringing the "Shared Watch" co-op event and the return of the "Cold Snap" map condition. However, the ongoing issues with exploits highlight a deeper instability that requires more than weekly patches to fully resolve. The studio continues to face criticism from players for primarily communicating official information through third-party platforms like Discord, rather than directly in-game or through more accessible public channels. This communication strategy only exacerbates player frustration when critical game-breaking bugs emerge.

ARC Raiders' Critical Acclaim: A Strong Foundation Under Pressure

Released on October 30, 2025, ARC Raiders quickly garnered critical acclaim, running on Unreal Engine 5. The game holds an OpenCritic top critic average of 87/100 with 93% of critics recommending it. This places it in the 98th percentile of games scored on the platform, an impressive feat for a new IP in a competitive genre. Its blend of Extraction, Shooter, Third-Person Shooter, and Survival genres earned it 'Best Multiplayer Game' at The Game Awards 2025 and 'Most Innovative Gameplay' at The Steam Awards 2025. The title is rated Teen for Violence and Blood by the ESRB. This critical success provides a strong foundation, but consistent player dissatisfaction with event scheduling and the persistence of game-breaking exploits could erode goodwill if not addressed with greater urgency and transparency.
