Mortal Kombat

The 2021 Mortal Kombat had a very short theatrical window due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so we’re going to base our estimates instead on more recent New Line Cinema films distributed by Warner Bros. The bloody horror comedy They Will Kill You hit streaming on April 28, about a month after its March 27 theatrical release. The Conjuring: Last Rites made its VOD debut on Oct. 7, 2025 after opening on Sept. 5. That means Mortal Kombat 2 will probably be available digitally in early June.

The Conjuring: Last Rites got its physical release on Nov. 25, while They Will Kill You will be available on 4K UHD, DVD, and Blu-ray on June 30. That means you’ll probably see a special feature-packed Mortal Kombat 2 physical release in July.

HBO Max will be Mortal Kombat 2’s first stop on streaming. Weapons, which was also made by New Line Cinema and distributed by Warner Bros., landed on HBO Max on Oct. 24 after releasing in theaters on Aug. 8 and on VOD on Sept. 9. The Conjuring: Last Rites made its HBO Max debut on Nov. 21. That means Mortal Kombat 2 will likely be available to stream in late July. Looking for another video game adaptation to watch in the meantime? Rent The Super Mario Galaxy Movie or the surreal horror movie Exit 8.

I'll be blunt, the answer is no. The character never shows up in the sequel, although Shao Kahn (Martyn Ford) does a pretty good job filling in as chief antagonist. As the Mortal Kombat tournament kicks off, Shao Kahn assembles a team that includes himself, his adopted daughter Kitana (Adeline Rudolph), her bodyguard Jade (Tati Gabrielle), Kitana's zombified mother (Ana Thu Nguyen), and a zombified Kung Lao (Max Huang). Surely, there was room in the group for a Shokan, even if Goro himself wasn't available. And to be fair, he definitely wasn't because of what happened in Mortal Kombat (2021).
