AI Daily Narrative

Google’s AI stack is everywhere — and Apple is now leaning on it while pricing pressure builds

Apple confirmed that its new Siri AI stack uses Google’s Gemini models, while also saying the system runs on Nvidia hardware inside Google servers. Apple kept the same privacy pitch it has used before, even as its AI moves beyond purely on-device or Apple-controlled hardware. The company’s own explanation also shows why: the local and private-cloud approach hit the limits of Apple’s hardware capacity. [0] arstechnica.com

Apple also drew a sharper line around what it is and is not taking from Google. Craig Federighi said Apple uses none of the Gemini models deployed to Google’s customers, none of Google’s client-side code, and no Google Search infrastructure as the knowledge backbone for Apple Foundation Models. Apple said the new AFM family includes two on-device models and three server-side models. [1] macrumors.com

That makes Google look less like a background supplier and more like a core platform behind the next wave of AI products. At the same time, Google is pushing AI deeper into its own ecosystem, from Gemini interface changes for multitaskers to AI Mode surfacing in Opera on Android and broader Android requirements that put 12GB RAM on the new-feature floor. Google is also expanding the compute base underneath that strategy, with a reported multi-million-chip TPU order from Intel. Could Google have something to say about it?

HONOR isn’t actually the first Android OEM to offer this feature. Realme debuted a similar Personal Information Protection feature back in 2020, sending blank data when an app requested certain permissions. Weirdly enough, it looks like realme may have pulled this feature to keep Google happy.

I wish Galaxy phones had this new privacy feature, but Google might nix it
