Apple-related discussion is split between product/accessory and device/security/legal updates, including camera-equipped AirPods in action, new iOS/iPadOS/macOS/tvOS 27 public betas, and a Germany App Tracking Transparency agreement. Separately, investigators report an unprecedented spyware alert affecting many Apple users, and an AI-development report claims Apple trained an AI model for China with Alibaba.

How is the Apple Upgrade Program different from the iPhone Upgrade Program?

Yarrrrrbright/Shutterstock The biggest difference between the Apple Upgrade Program and the iPhone Upgrade Program (besides the eponymous change in products included) is that in the previous system, payments were applied directly to the phone. This meant that at the end of the contract, users would own their phone outright with no additional fee. The iPhone Upgrade Program also included AppleCare protection, while the new one does not. Apple does recommend a separate subscription to the service, as leased devices that are returned damaged will incur a fee. Devices that have AppleCare that are

Is Google actually losing to Apple here?

That was a month ago, and my street hasn't been closed, so this isn't a matter of Google jumping the gun. It's faulty data, plain and simple. I reported these problems, and Google fixed them within 24 hours, only to see them revert a couple of days later. As far as I can tell, Google is scraping this info from city databases. It seems that a human corrects errors based on reports, only to have an algorithm overwrite that manual change on the next update. However, that doesn't explain how Apple Maps gets this completely right. So does Waze, which is even more ironic, considering it's owned by G

Why is there a lawsuit over Apple Intelligence?

When Apple advertised its new iPhone 16 lineup in 2024, it emphasized how the models were optimized for AI features such as an enhanced Siri that could act as an intelligent agent. When the phones did arrive, Apple Intelligence wasn’t yet ready; its first features didn’t arrive until iOS 18.1, five weeks later. According to the proposed settlement, “Apple allegedly saturated the market with deceptive ads, inducing consumers to purchase iPhones based on the promise of certain enhanced Siri features.” Some features of Apple Intelligence did ship soon after the introduction of the iPhone 16 and i

Why MagSafe wallets?

I still look at MagSafe wallets as a bridge to the future. Once you can pay with Apple Pay everywhere you go and store your driver’s license/ ID directly on your iPhone, you’ll only need to carry your phone when you leave the house. We’re closer to that future than we were a couple years ago, but until it’s fully there, I’m still carrying a wallet, just a much thinner one than I used to. My state still has yet to announce support for a digital ID, either. Ever since getting on the MagSafe wallet train, it’s all I use now, and I don’t see myself going back. It’s one less thing to think about. O
