People are focusing on Ubuntu’s role in infrastructure and migration work: deploying Ubuntu 24.04 for clustered HA quorum/arbiter setups, and moving existing ZFS pools or systems between Linux distributions. There’s also discussion of Ubuntu’s growth trajectory via Canonical’s Ubuntu on Windows (WSL) story.

Why fix what isn't broken?
It's easy to complain about some elements of Ubuntu, but really, the biggest problems with it stem from its default desktop, GNOME, and the base for Ubuntu is extremely solid. There's a reason it's the most popular Linux distro around, and with that comes a lot of infrastructure to support it, too. Because it's an official Ubuntu flavor, it gets big new releases right alongside Ubuntu itself, which means the latest version is already based on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, which includes Linux kernel version 7.0 with the latest drivers and everything you need for a modern device. It also has a long support
One of the big talking points when it comes to comparing Linux to Windows is how much lighter Linux can be and how it still supports lower-end or older hardware. But when you look at Ubuntu, that seems to be less and less true as time goes on. Being the default for so many people, Canonical has felt the need to load Ubuntu with a lot of things to make things easier, but in doing so, Ubuntu has, in many ways, become almost as bloated as Windows. We've talked about that before, and there are options to have a lighter Ubuntu experience, but just look at what's happening with the upcoming release
