Marvel just ended its most celebrated series, and is soon to shutter an imprint that's seen as the high watermark of its current output. However, it's clear the publisher knows that with the end of an era, something big needs to follow. The obvious successor to the Ultimate Universe is the upcoming Midnight Universe imprint. We still have a lot to learn about Marvel’s Wolverine’s story, especially as it pertains to the typical X-Men timeline and world state. After the State of Play Wolverine showcase, Insomniac Games revealed that the X-Men, as audiences know them from comics, movies, and so on, do not actually exist in the world of Marvel’s Wolverine. In other words, there is no formal mutant-superhero organization formed by Charles Xavier in this universe, just like how there’s no Green Goblin in Marvel’s Spider-Man yet.
