Kernel.org's IPv6 address ends in ":1991:8:25", the date Linux was announced

I was dig-ing through some hosts to check IPv6 support when I noticed kernel.org's AAAA record: 2600:3c04:e001:324:0:1991:8:25 That suffix (::1991:8:25), is August 25, 1991, the day Linus Torvalds posted his famous annou…

Open source kept my 2009 Logitech G19 alive

TL;DR: Fixed a long-standing bug in the Linux driver for my 2009 Logitech G19. Instead of replacing perfectly good hardware, I repaired the software. This is why I love Linux and open source. Today I fixed a bug in the L…

What's the smallest (in a sense that it could be smuggled in a body cavity and/or well-hidden) commercially available or DIY device that runs full fledged distro of Linux with any form of internet access and GUI? I want to be able to code on it, read e-books, play simple games and doomscroll socials

What else can you do with a Linux phone?

I've only had the Jolla C2 for a few days but I'm trying to make it my daily driver for a bit to see what it's like, but I'm most curious to see what capabilities I might be able to get by having a proper Linux phone available. With a terminal built right in, I should be able to add repositories and install other apps, so it'll be interesting to see what can be done. My next order of business will be figuring out how to install common desktop packages like ffmpeg or Distrobox on this device. Jolla C2 Community Phone Brand Jolla SoC

Why make a better operating system in the first place?

There's no way I couldn't start this article without touching on the gigantic elephant in the room: the Windows Subsystem for Linux. It truly says something that, for all the benefits Windows may have over a typical Linux distro, Microsoft decided that one of the ways to make Windows better was to simply... put another operating system inside of it. WSL initially made its debut back in 2016, and since then, it has progressed significantly, going from a purely terminal-based tool to adding support for GUI apps, as well as adding support for systemd, a key component in many Linux distros.
