With data center GPUs expected to last roughly five years, about 200,000 of the proposed 1 million AI1 satellites could be decommissioned each year. A May 29 FCC filing says about 40,000 would definitely deorbit and burn up in the atmosphere, dispersing their materials as contaminants.
