Android Auto adds swipeable media cards as CapCut lands on Android tablets

Android Auto is starting to roll out support for multiple swipeable media cards on the dashboard, letting drivers switch between active audio apps without reopening them each time. The feature is live in the latest Android Auto beta, and wider release on the stable channel has not yet been seen. androidauthority.com

A separate Android Auto update adds a swipe control that makes switching music apps safer and faster while driving. The change fits the same push toward smoother in-car media playback, with easier access to playlists, podcasts, and audiobooks. androidpolice.com androidauthority.com

On larger screens, CapCut is now available for Android tablets with desktop-level editing features such as a multi-track timeline and chroma key. The app is free for now, though CapCut could add subscriptions later. androidauthority.com

Samsung is also working on One UI 9 changes tied to Android 17’s background audio controls, including a possible user killswitch and automatic handling of distracting apps like browsers and games. Together with the tablet editing launch, the day’s Android news points to more control over media, playback, and creative tools. androidauthority.com androidauthority.com

Do we really need annual Android upgrades?

We've accepted that yearly updates are normal in the smartphone space. We get a new entry in each smartphone range, and major operating system updates, too. They keep the mill churning, keep putting out new features, new upgrades, new reasons to buy, more reasons for stock prices to go up. What do we get? New stuff. It seems like a good bargain. Except it isn't working. Companies are running out of steam. Even worse, there were signs this would be the case from the very beginning. From the start, very few smartphone ranges changed every year. The tick-tock model meant we got a phone with minim

Is it worth installing Steam on an Android handheld?

There doesn’t seem to be a big difference between Steam on Linux and an Android app like GameNative in terms of compatibility. I also didn’t get the impression that there was a significant performance delta between the two platforms, but this is only based on my limited experience. However, I do appreciate that GameNative gives you easier access to various settings, allowing me to quickly swap out drivers, switch between graphical wrappers, and tweak the translation tools. By contrast, the Steam client doesn’t place these options within easy reach, if they do at all.

Do you need messaging apps?

Android Auto can read messages out loud and even allow for responses to be made through dictation. That's all well and good, but even this can cause a distraction. People automatically assume that anything hands-free is better than looking at a screen, and while that is certainly true to a point, listening to TTS read-outs or attempting to construct sentences while driving can be problematic for those who struggle to concentrate on multiple tasks. It's all cognitive, not just visual, through gazing at the center display. A short "OK" reply is straight to the point and doesn't require much to a
