I got to thinking again about the concept of a Terraria 2 when Subnautica 2 released this month. Subnautica 2 is, in many ways, completely identical to its predecessor. It just looks a lot prettier and has a lot more developed content compared to the previous title at this early, early stage of development. But it’s fundamentally the same game. I’m not sure what developer Unknown Worlds could have ever done except remake the exact same game. Subnautica was so beloved for a reason, so to step away from that is just a monumental risk.
