The major choice players will need to make at the start of Directive 8020 is whether to consult Oracle about the damages to the ship. This choice does not impact the game's narrative in any shape or form, but instead acts as a gateway to a choice that is more impactful. Here's what happens if you skip consulting Oracle, and the sleep crew goes about assessing the damage themselves.

If players choose to consult the Oracle in Directive 8020, this will lead to Simms and Carter entering the computer's chamber. This interaction is meant to introduce players to the supercomputer that runs things behind the scenes, and will lead to another impactful choice that I'll talk about later on.

If you skip consulting Oracle, Simms and Carter will go about the ship and assess the damages directly without meeting Oracle. While this option does not impact the narrative, it will prevent players from meeting Oracle the first time and also lock players out of a choice that shows up after Simms and Carter consult Oracle.

Players will encounter this choice only if they decide to consult Oracle in the previous choice. After Carter asks for a damage report, Oracle responds with a request to reboot its systems to assess the damage more accurately. While Simms objects to the notion that it can hold back the repairs, it's up to Carter to make the final call on whether to reboot Oracle in Directive 8020 or not.
